A newly issued FCC amateur radio license is valid for a period of 10 years.
Many hams simply forget to renew their
license, especially if they've gone inactive for
a period of time.
You are able to renew via the FCC website
beginning 90 days from, and up to, your
expiration date. However, If your license does
expire, all is not lost. You will have up to 2
years from the expiration date to renew your
license. However, you are not allowed to
transmit anytime in that 2 year period until you
renew.
Do not let your license expire! Renewing your
license via the FCC website is absolutely free.
The steps to renew are easy to follow.
{Ed.: Unfortunately, the FCC begins collecting a fee of $35 for license renewals beginning April 19, 2022.}
